Today is your big moment.

Shauna Niequist writes, “I have always, essentially, been waiting” (Niequist, 2024, p. 7). And I know that feeling intimately. I’ve waited to feel more confident, more qualified, more grounded. I’ve waited to write something truly worth sharing, to live in a place that’s comfortable year-round, to finally feel “put together.” I’ve spent years imagining a version of myself that doesn’t actually exist, except maybe in some airbrushed corner of my imagination.

But today reminded me of something quiet and true: the waiting keeps me from seeing. I’ve been holding out for a big moment; expecting it to arrive with a flourish, cue the music, and change everything. But what actually met me was far simpler and far more real: the sound of my daughter laughing in her room, the feel of bare feet on warm tile, the scent of biscuits baking, and the slow steadiness of my own breath.

“This is it, in the best possible way,” Shauna writes (p. 8). Not the someday, not the almost-there, but this—right here, right now. The way my son texts me lyrics to whatever song is looping in his head. The way Chad still opens the car door for me. The dog snoring contentedly at the foot of the couch. This isn’t the waiting room for something more important. This is the sacred space itself.

So today, I’m asking myself: What daily things in my life have I been overlooking, waiting for something grander to begin? What small wonders am I missing while I wait for the cinematic version of life to show up?

And I want to ask you, too: What are some daily things in your life that you might be missing out on, waiting for that big moment?

Because today is your big moment.
Not the one you imagined. The one you’re already living.

Gracefully yours,

Help keep the words flowing and the stories brewing.
