Some meals will tell the story of the night before; like tonight’s chicken spaghetti. The sauce will come together creamy and rich, stirred through with the leftover roast chicken from last nights dinner. A second act, in pasta form.

The recipe from Magnolia Table Vol. 1 will go into the oven later layered in my ceramic baking dish, topped with cheese, and baked until it bubbles and turns golden at the edges. And dessert will already be waiting; the butter cake from Magnolia Table Vol. 3 will be pulled from the fridge, the roasted strawberries deepening in color and sweetness with each day. Cold cake always feels like a small victory, proof that yesterday’s effort still lingers in the best way.

Kitchen Tool: My ceramic baking dish — deep enough for layers of pasta and steady enough to feed us twice.

Cooking Tip: I’ll save a bit of the pasta water to stir into the sauce. It’ll help it cling to every strand and keep the spaghetti creamy instead of dry.

By the time dinner is ready, the kitchen will smell like home again — cheesy, familiar, and full of grace served one more time.
