Not every day will call for pots simmering on the stove or flour dusting the counter. Some days, the best meal will come with chopsticks and a cardboard takeout box.

The morning will begin with a protein shake; quick, efficient, and forgettable in that way breakfasts often are when the day ahead feels full. By evening, The Rice Box will carry the weight: warm, saucy, and delicious without me lifting a pan. The kitchen will stay clean and that will be its own kind of feast.

Later, the night will shift from food to words as I find myself at Resurrection MCC for Jen Hatmaker’s Awake. Sitting in a crowd, book in hand, I will be reminded that nourishment won’t always come from what’s on the plate — sometimes it will come from what I hear, what I carry home in my heart.

What’s on your menu?

Gracefully yours,
