Some mornings begin with muffins that taste like autumn itself. The apple cider muffins from Sally’s Baking Challenge were already baked and waiting, their spiced sweetness softening the edge of the day. A leftover never felt so welcome with a cup of coffee.

By evening, the table will look a little more Parisian. French Lentil Soup from Magnolia Table Vol. 2 will simmer until the kitchen smells like carrots, thyme, and comfort. But tonight, the soup won’t stand alone. A ham sandwich, stacked on slices of Honey Oat Bread from Magnolia Vol. 3, will join the bowl. Together, they’ll be the kind of dinner that proves simple food doesn’t mean ordinary.

Here’s the thing about reheating soup: a low flame is your best friend. Let it warm gently, stir now and then, and it will reward you with flavors that feel like they’ve only grown more patient. Tonight, the enamel Dutch oven will be my tool of choice again, steady and reliable, carrying yesterday’s work into today’s meal.

For dessert, chocolate chip cookies from Magnolia Vol. 1 will wait in the jar on the counter, promising the kind of sweetness that doesn’t need a season.
And as I sit with my bowl and sandwich, I’ll think about how the ordinary meals—the ones that don’t announce themselves—are often the ones that linger longest.
What’s on your table tonight?
Gracefully yours,
