The first day of fall will arrive not with crisp air on the Gulf Coast, but with a pot of Chicken & Dumplings from Magnolia Table Vol 1 simmering on the stove. The broth will thicken slowly, steam rising like a promise that the season is changing even if the weather has not caught up. I will poach the chicken gently, letting it rest before shredding, because tenderness is the secret to comfort.

A sturdy ladle will become my best friend, lifting broth, dumplings, and chicken together in one generous scoop — the kind that makes every bowl feel complete. And while the biscuits may come from a can this time, I’ll remember that shortcuts do not take away from the ritual. They simply leave more room for savoring.

There will be leftover Lemon Pie waiting, a sweet reminder that summer has not completely slipped away, and maybe even a pumpkin spice latte, because why not let two seasons sit together at the same table?
And I cannot help but wonder… maybe fall does not begin with the leaves but with the ladle, the first scoop of something warm that tells us change is not only coming, it is already here.
