This morning will begin with something simple, a protein shake blended fast enough to keep pace with the day. But dinner will be another story. Tonight the oven will warm slowly, holding the promise of a Bacon & Leek Quiche from Magnolia Table Vol 2. The leeks will soften in butter, the bacon will crisp, and together they will fold into custard like old friends catching up after too much time apart.

For the crust, I’ll let the food processor do the work. Cold butter and flour will whirl together until the mixture looks like sand and pebbles, ready to be pressed into something worth waiting for. The machine keeps the butter cold and the process quick, ensuring the dough bakes into tender, flaky layers. There is a certain satisfaction in knowing that a few simple pulses can lead to something so elegant.

There’s something about quiche that balances contradiction. It is rustic and refined, breakfast and dinner, French and all-American. It will be our table’s quiet centerpiece, rich with bacon, tender with leeks, tucked inside golden pastry. The kind of meal that makes a Friday evening feel like a soft exhale.

And as I take the first slice, I’ll remind myself that food is never just food. It is rhythm, ritual, and a reminder that the ordinary can be extraordinary if we let it.
